Might Go Away
I just am not a fan of blogging anymore. I keep debating deleting the blog to entirely. Maybe the urge to ramble on in paragraph form will come back to me. Maybe not.

Star Wars Day
I guess with Star Wars Day we have to celebrate the bad Star Wars movies along with good. Just like on President's Day when you have to celebrate the good and bad ones.

Only the McNuggets
Frankly I don't play on the computer as much as home as I used to, at least since my mom got sick. I hang out with the Little One, watch some baseball, watch some TV to zone out, and then play with the new puppy.
I enjoy blogging but I really just don't play on the internet as much. I also want to social network more because I wouldn't mind getting in touch with people I used to be friends with. My first start was Twitter so please feel free to follow my mcnugget sized posts at Twitter. I figure if all the cool kids are doing it so should I.

Something To Remember
The Steelers fan blogs are mostly howling about the Steelers performance on the first day of the draft. I'm not exactly thrilled about getting one player either but I also am not qualified to run an NFL franchise.
This picture is a good reminder that the people who do run the Steelers franchise are pretty fraking good.

Raunchy Joke From How I Met Your Mother
How I Met Your Mother is a great comedy show. Well its great minus the main character who's actually really bad. Last night Barney told a censored joke (punchline in the comments).

Braves Win!
Sure it's only one game but a win is better than a loss. It seems Derek Lowe might be a pretty good pick up.
Opening Day
I love me some Opening Day! I love it even more since the Braves are playing. Let's play ball!

Things I Learned From Mom
I despise public speaking. I'm told I'm pretty good at it but man do I hate it. Mom was sick for a bit of time so I had to come to terms with a few things. One of those was speaking at her funeral. I decided against it both times during my grandparents funeral but this was different. First and foremost I think she would have wanted me to speak. Plus I'm the oldest, I felt it was required of me.
Since I had a bit of time and I knew two months ago that it would be before summer I batted a few things around in my head. I didn't want to write anything down before it happened. I did know I needed to write it down or I wouldn't be able to get everything out.
Of course mom died and then I didn't want to write anything down. Put I pushed back the tears, came up with a topic, and forced myself to write down thoughts on my mom that I think the world should know.
So here is basically what I said.
Things I Learned From My Mom
-Trevor McGregor
I learned that Coke is better then Pepsi, that dogs are better then cats, and you usually should stay on a 16.
Mom taught me that you should be honest with yourself because if you aren't honest with yourself then the rest doesn't matter.
I learned that red cars go faster, that beaches are better the pools, and a sunset is prettier then a sunrise.
Throughout the years she taught me how that nothing in the universe is stronger than a parent's love for their child.
I learned that cancer does suck, I guess she taught that to everyone.
Mom taught me that giving presents is better then getting them, that Star Wars is cool, and that things are usually better with rum then without.
Mom taught me that Eric Clapton can sure play the guitar, that the Rolling Stones can sure put on a show, and that All You Need Is Love.
I learned how to be a sibling because Mom loved Mikie and Mary Jane so much, she taught me how to be a spouse with the love she showed Paul, and I learned how to be a parent because anyone who's ever spent time with Mom knew how much she loved Michael, David, and I.
I learned that sports are better when you can root for people like Terry Bradshaw, Rocky Blieir, John Smoltz, or even Brian McCann.
She taught me that religion is about how you deal with God not how someone else deals with God.
Mom taught me that life isn't fair, it can be mean to everyone.
Grammy taught me that while Mom can say no Grammy's sure can't.
What has helped me most of all these past few days is that mom taught me that everyone dies.
She said not to be sorry for someone dying because it happens to everyone. She said instead of spending time feeling sorry for them you should remember how great they were in life.
I will try not to feel sorry for you Mom, your journey with us is over and you want all of us to focus on the journey that is still ahead of us. I want to thank you for being my Mom and Emily's Grammy.
So while I won't feel sorry for you I sure will miss you, Goodbye Mom.

Getting Back
I'm slowly getting back to normal. I still don't sleep very well prior to falling asleep. Once I get to sleep I'm sound asleep for the night. The problem is getting to sleep, taking much longer then it should.
I still don't feel much like blogging or really anything but we've done some fun things around the house. We're planning our vacation next summer (we're skipping a big one this year) and that's been fun. Playing some Street Fighter 4, catching up on basically three weeks of TV.
Slowly but surely I'm dealing with this major change in my life but I've got friends and family that have been really helpful.

Susan McGregor
In September of 2006 my mother was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer. I could go into the details of what stage four cancer is but you could look it up, let me just say there isn't a stage five.
Her 30 month fight with cancer ended last Tuesday. Born Donna Susan Barton on July 20 1951 in Sarasota, Florida. She died Susan Barton McGregor on March 17 2009, beloved wife to Paul and mother of three, Trevor, David, and Michael and grammy to my darling Emily.
The last six weeks were incredibly hard on her so while we all miss her very much we are relieved her suffering is over. I think the world needs to know more about her so I'll write about her some in the next days.
Right now I'm tired and I really am done talking about this for at least the next few hours.

Now that is what I like out of 24. Sure it was absurd but man it was full of action and a well deserved Silent Clock. Let's kick some ass Jack.

Absurd
That was the most absurd episode of 24 yet. For it to be absurd by 24 standards is saying a lot. I'll still watch but man that was just too over the top.
Happy Birthday!

Bargin Shopping
The Braves recently have spent 3 million for Tom Glavine, 2.5 million for Garret Anderson maybe(I'll believe it when I actually see him in a uniform), and 4 million for Jeff Francouer. All of those in 2009 will be below average performers. That's 9.5 million or almost the exact price they could have signed Adam Dunn to play LF for them.
I gotta say I think Adam Dunn would be much better then bargin shopping two has beens and a never will be.

Bye Bye Emmitt
Man you were a great running back but an awful talking head. Too bad I think this means they'll hire Brett Favre to replace him. I can just hear Berman now "isn't great how much fun Brett Favre is having at the end of the table."

No Griffey?
I think its better for the long term of the Braves that they don't spend money on a 39 year old who can't play everyday. That being said it is really sucky that the Braves can't sign anyone they go after. My how the might have fallen.

Bud Selig
I keep wanting to go through a Spring Training without having to have some player spend news cycle after news cycle put us through some steroid crap. I get it, players used steroids. Put in testing, make the penalties tough and let's move on.
Since it keeps coming up though and this week Bud Selig said he's not to blame. It angers him that he hears comments about how much at fault he is and that's just wrong. Well Bud, you're wrong. Next to Donald Fehr the union chief you're the person most responsible for this entire mess.
There what some 3,000 players, a few dozen trainers, owners, managers, agents, the countless media people, and of course the millions upon millions of fans. All of them are to blame to certain extent. The players as a group probably should rightfully so get the blame. But there is a lot of blame to spread around and it a lot of it needs to land of Bud's lap.
Let me get this straight it's okay for players to use steroids when it makes baseball millions of dollars recovering from the 1994 strike (as an aside World War 2 couldn't cancel the World Series but Bud Selig can) but once Congress get's involved steroids are bad.
If someone is naive enough to think that MLB and the owners didn't want the boom in the late 90s and early 2000s fueled by these 'Roided up players then more power to them. The entire league, the media, and even the fans are to blame. Since it's your league Bud the buck should stop with you.

Griffey, really?
If had a list of my favorite baseball players of all-time Ken Griffey, Jr. would be on it. Not sure where, probably the top 10. However this is 2009 and I really don't want the Braves to sign Griffey, he's old and more then a little past his prime.
I mean come on, Griffey was on the Simpsons in 1992 with current players like Jose Canseco, Steve Sax, Don Mattingly, and Ozzie Smith. He won his MVP twelve years ago! He made his major league debut in 1989! In 1989 Batman and Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade came out. In 1989 I was 13!
Man this Braves team is going to be really bad.

TV Recap
It was a pretty good night of TV. It didn't quite live up the expectations but it still wasn't bad. BSG was the weakest of the episodes so far in this final season. Terminator was its typical "let's not really move the story but at least we'll pretend".
Dollhouse wasn't great but it wasn't bad either. The actual pilot should be shown next week with some reshots. Fox apparently didn't like the pilot as a first episode, they liked it enough to buy the show but not for the first episode. Fox made Whedon come up with a different first episode. Whedon is then using his actual pilot later and I'm pretty sure its this week.
At least this time they worked with the creator before moving episodes around unlike with Firefly.

Still Nada
It's been almost two weeks since the Steelers won the Super Bowl two weeks ago and I haven't bought any merchandise about it yet. Definitely a change from the win a few years ago. With a birthday only two weeks after the Super Bowl I got way too much Super Bowl XL stuff last time. I went out and spent about $50 on stuff. Then Pretty Bird spent about $50 on stuff as did my mom. This time I'll see what they get me in a week and then I'll pick up anything that is missed.

A day after the Steelers win their 6th Super Bowl I get Heroes and 24 on the same time for the first time in almost two years. What a good night of TV.

Great Christmas Gifts
Super Bowl Champions!
I guess I wouldn't have expected this game to end any differently then it actually did. The Steelers won 15 games this year and almost all of them were just like this. The defense usually doesn't break like it did in the fourth quarter like it did tonight. Actually it has never broken like that all year. It was really tough to deal with it.
The Ben did what he's done all year. I'd much prefer if they didn't play like this, last drives and all but that's how they roll. I guess good things do come from Ohio. Ben from Miami, OH to Santonio Holmes from Ohio State University for the game winning TD.
Man what a game. I think I lost about 10 years of my life. Number 6, how sweet it is.

Game Time
Today is game time baby! The Steelers are better the Cardinals, there is little question about that. The Steelers will win tonight if they play like they should. If Ben doesn't crap all over himself by turning it over 2 or 3 times then life should be good. The Cardinals just aren't as good. They only won 9 games and they outscored their opponents by one point. The Steelers should win. I've been trying to come up with a reason to be worried because I don't want to be overconfindent.
Then I remember the 18-0 Patriots losing to the Giants last year. This is the NFL and anything can happen. Any given Sunday. Let's just hope the Steelers have the anything on their side.

Short Time
We've got a short time to go. In 24 hours or so we'll know who wins the Super Bowl. I'm so excited its hard to put into words. I honestly don't care if the Steelers win. Obviously I want the to win but this is all on house money. Going into the season I was expecting about 10-6 and a playoff win or so. Being in the big game is just icing on the cake. Plus they beat the Purple Browns three times to get there, gotta love it.
Hopefully I can enjoy the game tomorrow but I'm sure I'll be stessed.
Here we go Steelers, here we go!

Great TV
Man BSG was good this week. I gotta say that was the best episode so far this year. I can't really see how they resolve yet but they do have 7 hours to play with. Starting the 13th Fridays turn into the biggest geek fest of all. Terminator, Dollhouse, and BSG on the same night, good times.

Cylon Free Zone
Done!
One hour until Super Bowl weekend starts. I'm lucky its been a busy week because man was it a long week. We'll see how the weekend goes but this should be a good weekend, win or lose. Man do I love the Super Bowl.

Great Week of TV
Man the week your team is in the Super Bowl is great programming on the NFL Network. It sure is must see TV.
Wednesday, January 28, 2009
Super Bowl Extra Large
Tonight was the first time since 2006 I'd watched the full Super Bowl. I obviously watched it live and then later that week. I've got the 30 minute special from SI and I've watched that a few times. I also caught it on the NFL Network a time or two. Tonight the full SB was on so I decided to watch it.
Man the Steelers offense didn't show up. The defense sure did. The Seahawks want to whine about the refs but there was only two iffy calls. The offensive PI was ticky-tacky but it was still O-PI. Normally you don't see that called but it is still a penalty. The illegal block on Hasselbeck was crap but it didn't change the game. The rest were just 'eh' calls. You let a team win by 11 points that only has three good offensive players all game, that isn't the refs fault.
Still I hope the offense shows up more on Sunday. At least the defense is better this time.

Longest Week...Ever
Today starts the longest week ever. Man working a five day week when the Steelers play in the Super Bowl on Sunday is going to be tough.
Sunday, January 25, 2009
Three Years Ago
Man I was pretty harsh on the Cardinals a few years ago before Super Bowl XL. Hopefully Super Bowl 7 is tough on them like Super Bowl XXX was on me. We've got a week to see though.
New Game
I need a new video game. GTA4 just isn't doing it for me. It isn't the content, it is the fact that there is no cohesive story and each mission is just the same. Its the same stuff over and over again. RPGs usually have that for their side missions but this is the same for everything. The problem is there isn't a reason to do other missions except for them being on your map. There is no story reason or no benefit reason. The game sure as hell looks good though.
One Week To Go
Down to just one week to go until Super Bowl 7. I'm a huge Steelers fan and I can't take the buildup and hype, who knows what other fans are doing. I guess the Cardinals fans are loving it because they've never won anything before, they're still in shock. Hell I still can't believe it. One week to go!
Here we go Steelers, here we go.
Here we go Steelers, here we go.

Week Two (of Ten)
I think I enjoyed week two of the final BSG season better then week one. I get so mad when the show isn't on the air then it comes back and I'm quickly forced to remember how great a show it is. I like that this episode actually gave it some direction compared to just being bleak. I know I'll be looking forward to it every week for another eight weeks.
Everythings Not Fixed
President Obama has been in office for the better part of a week now and he hasn't fixed everything. Man I hope in a month or three and everything is not fixed that he still has the approval of the country. Talk about someone who has some pretty high expectations to live up to. I think he'll be fine. Closing an illegal prison in your first week is a great first step.

Playoff Haircut
Man I hate superstitions. I don't even play for the Steelers but there are certain things I just must do or I can't live with myself. I think I'm getting crazier in my old age. I guess I'll cut my hair in another week or so. I am tired of looking like a hippy. Pretty Bird is worried one of these years my superstitions will cause me to go all Pedro Cerrano and have to sacrifice a live chicken or something.
Only another 9 days to go or so. Man its going to be a long week.

NFL Network
The week after the Championship Games is a great time to have the NFL Network. All of the all-time Super Bowl stuff gets rolled out. Of course being a Steelers fan is good because there are five Super Bowl wins and six Super Bowls total. Still it is fun to watch some of the old time footage.
Wednesday, January 21, 2009
Lie To Me
Pretty Bird and I both love Tim Roth so we decided to give Lie to Me a try. We didn't hate the premiere so we'll try the next week and see where it goes. We sure as hell don't need another hour long drama in the queue though so something else might have to get cut.

Silent Clock
I think they've got overusing the silent clock some. I really liked the first two episodes of 24 but the next three of leaving me down some. I'll hold off judgment completely but so far it seems more like season six then season five.
The Last Day
Today is the last day the Dummy and Darth Vader are in power. Man I feel bad for helping elect that man.

Super Bowl XLIII
Here come the Steelers! The last Super Bowl the Steelers went to was nicknamed Super Bowl Extra Large. I'm going to nickname this one Super Bowl Troy Polamalu. Man what a defense, what a game. I can think of nothing better then going to the Super Bowl through beating Old Cleveland. Gotta love the Steelers!
Bring It On
Today is the AFC Championship Game. I'm really worried about the game because its the Ravens. I think the Steelers are better then the Ravens in just about every category except the offensive line. Plus the Steelers are healthier, better rested, and playing at home. This game should be won by the Steelers.
None of that matters of course. This is the playoffs and a divisional rival. This is going to be a nerve racking three hours. Tis life in the NFL.
Here we go Steelers, here we go!

24 Hours To Go
In 24 hours we'll know who's playing in America's latest holiday, the Super Bowl. It should be a good if not late Sunday watching some football. Go Steelers!
I'm not going to pick the Steelers game of course but I do think the Eagles are going from the NFC. I think I'd be great if the Cardinals went but I just think the Eagles are better.

Final Episodes
I gotta say I don't like their choice for the 5th Cylon. I still think there is more to it. Pretty Bird has a theory that I really believe but we'll see if it happens. Nine more to go.

BSG Returns!
For the last time. There was a time when I thought that BSG was the best show on television. Now I'm partially glad that there are only 10 episodes left. First off I think serial shows should have an endgame at least somewhat in mind. This would allow the show to end on the creator's terms and not on the network's.
That is only part of the reason I'm somewhat glad for it to go away. The main reason I'm done with it is that they've royally screwed it up. There have been three or four huge breaks which is just stupid. You shouldn't treat your viewers like that. It makes your viewers get upset with your show and want to watch something else.
Still I'll watch these 10 episodes because it is a great show. I won't get to watch it tonight but thanks to the DVR I'll watch it later.

Derek Lowe
So the Braves gave a 36 year old pitcher a 4 year deal. I really wish the Braves would just rebuild instead of giving old players too much money. Turns out they don't ask me my opinion. I'm pretty sure that they still won't be a winner this year. Can't football season go on all year.

This Just In!
I really do hate the Ravens. Just in case you've read this blog and not figured that out yet. They talk a bunch which is a stark contrast to the Steelers. Plus they are just the Purple Browns.

Tough Week
The Championship Game is the best and worst game possible. Losing it is tragic but winning it means your team goes to the Super Bowl. This has always been the game that stresses me out the most. It is easier for your team to not make this game then to lose it. It sure is going to be a tough week of being a fan.
Good thing I don't actually work for a team :)

TV Overload
If a Steelers win wasn't enough I get two hours of 24! The first 24 in about 20 months which is just crazy. Man do I love me some Jack Bauer. There are some bittersweet aspects of 24 in my life but outside of the huge layoff and the crap that was season 6 I think 24 is the best roller coaster ride on television. There is definitely room in my life for an hour long ride like 24 every week. Welcome back Jack.
One to Go
One game to go until the chance at the ultimate prize. There were aspects of the game that wasn't good for the Steelers but overall it was a really well played game. I'll ramble on about the game later on but outside of the first drive and garbage time man did that defense look good.
Bring on those Ravens!
Bring on those Ravens!
Lines in Vegas
All the sports books in Vegas are going crazy right now. All three games so far the home team and the favorite has lost. Most Vegas bettors are numbers betters, meaning they play trends. There are people lining up to say the home team pulls it out and probably an equal amount lining up to say the visitors are going to run the table. Just remember, the house always wins.
Second Sign of the Apocalypse
Is that the Arizona Cardinals are hosting the NFC Championship Game. This has been a really crazy weekend in the playoffs.
Playoffs Baby!
Today starts the Steelers second season for 2008/2009. I said when the Steelers beat the Ravens a month ago that it was great that the Steelers didn't have a game I cared about for another four weeks. Well those four weeks are over and this is a game I really care about.
The Steelers are a better team then the San Diego Chargers. That said, it doesn't really matter. The Steelers will beat the Chargers if the Steelers don't beat themselves. That's really all there is to say about it. The Steelers have beaten themselves plenty of times in the past so it sure could happen again today.
Come on Ben, please don't mess this up for us. Be more Tom Brady then Brett Favre today, you can do it. You do that and you're hosting the AFC Championship Game. Come on Steelers!
Here we go Steelers, here we go!

Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals are in the NFC Championship Game. That's pretty messed up right there.
Stupid Ravens
I have no idea how the Titans lost that game. I know it was turnovers but man were some of those turnovers just freaky. Man do I hate the Ravens.
Divisional Weekend Picks
I won't pick the Steelers game but here are my other picks.
Baltimore in a close one over Tennessee.
Panthers crush Arizona.
Giants in a somewhat close one over Philadelphia.
I'll write more about the Steelers later in the weekend. I'm still really worried about this game.

End of a Long Week
I've had a tough week personally. I won't go into it but it is nice that it is over. Not a great start to the year. Weekends are nice but I wouldn't call it relaxing. Between Jack being back and the Steelers playoff game I probably won't relax to much. At least I'll be able to sleep in.

Worried
I am worried about the Chargers. I don't know why I should be but I am. I'm actually really worried. Stupid NFL Playoffs.

Grand Theft Auto 4
I got this when it was on Super Black Friday sale and haven't played it yet. Today I started. I'm not sure if I like it yet. It is well done but how many cars can you steal or people can you beat up before it gets old. I guess I'll see.

Stop
I guess I will stop with my Peyton Manning/Colts love since now it seems the Colts will have to watch the next round of the playoffs from home. An 8-8 team beating a 12-4 team doesn't happen very often but I guess the Chargers are pretty good.
Wildcard Weekend Picks
Here are my wildcard weekend picks.
Arizona over Atlanta
Indianapolis over San Diego
Baltimore over Miami
Minnesota over Philadelphia
I could be wrong on a specific pick or two but I do believe that two home teams will win.

The Best
Congratulations Peyton Manning on your record tying third MVP. I believe the Peyton Manning is not only the best QB in the league now but the best QB ever. He's the dominate offensive force for the past 10 years in the offensive dominated era of the NFL.
The Steelers are obviously the first choice when it comes to games I watch on TV but the Colts are the second. Not because I like the Colts but because I really like to watch great players and Peyton is great.

Chris Johnson?
What the fuck? One of the 50 or so voters for the MVP award voted for Chris Johnson. Chris Johnson is not even remotely an MVP candidate this year. Stupid sportswriters.

From SI.com
"Manning led the Patriots to a 12-4 record and the AFC Championship. He led the league with 4,267 passing yards and threw 29 touchdowns."
Somehow I think they missed something in the description of the 2003 Co-MVP.
I wonder if they'll fix it, here is the article.
Edit: It turns out I know how to use (some) photoshop so I will put the picture here.

Lucky I'm Wearing Pants
I'm the only one in the office today after noon. It should be really quiet and they'll be lucky if I'm wearing pants when the UPS guy comes at 4pm. Party starts at 1pm!

Happy New Year!
This is the last of the 'oughts. You know what that means, we need a better name for this previous decade. That and thank God this was the last New Year's party with those stupid glasses with the two zeros made into the lenses. They were cute in 2000 but a little old by now.
