Braves Win!

Sure it's only one game but a win is better than a loss. It seems Derek Lowe might be a pretty good pick up.

Opening Day

I love me some Opening Day! I love it even more since the Braves are playing. Let's play ball!

Bargin Shopping

The Braves recently have spent 3 million for Tom Glavine, 2.5 million for Garret Anderson maybe(I'll believe it when I actually see him in a uniform), and 4 million for Jeff Francouer. All of those in 2009 will be below average performers. That's 9.5 million or almost the exact price they could have signed Adam Dunn to play LF for them.

I gotta say I think Adam Dunn would be much better then bargin shopping two has beens and a never will be.

No Griffey?

I think its better for the long term of the Braves that they don't spend money on a 39 year old who can't play everyday. That being said it is really sucky that the Braves can't sign anyone they go after. My how the might have fallen.

Griffey, really?

If had a list of my favorite baseball players of all-time Ken Griffey, Jr. would be on it. Not sure where, probably the top 10. However this is 2009 and I really don't want the Braves to sign Griffey, he's old and more then a little past his prime.

I mean come on, Griffey was on the Simpsons in 1992 with current players like Jose Canseco, Steve Sax, Don Mattingly, and Ozzie Smith. He won his MVP twelve years ago! He made his major league debut in 1989! In 1989 Batman and Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade came out. In 1989 I was 13!

Man this Braves team is going to be really bad.

Derek Lowe

So the Braves gave a 36 year old pitcher a 4 year deal. I really wish the Braves would just rebuild instead of giving old players too much money. Turns out they don't ask me my opinion. I'm pretty sure that they still won't be a winner this year. Can't football season go on all year.

So Long John

I know he isn't retiring but he is leaving Atlanta. I can't say that I blame him since ATL wasn't going to offer him near what Boston did.

Good for me

The Yankees signed the oft-injured yet incredibly talented AJ Burnett. The Braves were trying to sign him to some huge deal as well but the Yankees came in with even a bigger deal. I want the Braves to be good again but I'd rather them be smart about it. I'd prefer if they took a year or two and built a really solid team and AJ Burnett is not part of that plan. We'll see what happens throughout the winter.

Thanks for the memories Greg Maddux. There was a four year stretch were this guy was literally the best pitcher I've ever seen. I can remember a few innings where Braves pitchers have given up 4 home runs in that inning. I can also remember when Greg Maddux went an entire year, in 202 innings!

I'm not a huge fan of wins as a measure of a good pitcher but 355 is sure a hell of a lot of wins. Maddux also had a year when he won 19 games in 33 starts with 232 innings with whopping 20 walks. Yeah 19 wins with 20 walks is silly. How about a year with a 1.56 ERA followed up with a 1.63 ERA.

I could on for days about Maddux and his numbers. He was also a pretty good fielder I heard. For a pitcher he was pretty good with the bat because remember chicks did the long ball. He even stole 11 bases.

Greg Maddux is the very definition of a Hall of Famer. Thanks for the memories and the many short games when I had to work in the morning. How great it is that every fifth day I got to watch a Hall of Famer. Oh wait, three out of five days I got to watch one (well when Smoltz wasn't on the DL) but that's a story for a different blog.

Silly Braves

The Braves are being really silly thinking they can win next year. They really should be planning for 2010 or 2011 and not next year. I guess this is why I don't run a baseball team.

Chopper To Chipper

RIP Skip Caray. Skip Caray long-time voice of the Braves died this past Sunday. As much or even more that Chipper Jones, John Smoltz, Greg Maddux, and Tom Glavine gave me great memories over the past 15 years so did Skip Caray. You will be missed Skip, enjoy a nice cold one with your dad.

We barely got to know you. It is odd to have the Braves be sellers instead of buyers, first time I can remember. Granted they should have been sellers the past two years and then they would have been ready to compete this year or next but tis life I guess. At this point I think they'll be ready in 2010.

I guess it was too much to ask

I guess two in a row was too much to ask. Instead the Braves get shutout by a pitcher who'd been rocked in all of his other starts. Good job guys.

Two In A Row!

I can't believe the Braves actually won two in a row. It sure has been a long season so far.

Two Jones

Sure one of them isn't very good but it is better when there is a Jones at 3rd and a Jones in the outfield.

Hopeful

It was such a hope filled beginning of the season for the Braves. Now with all of their injuries I don't even know. There is still plenty of the season to go but you can't start this many players who aren't good and expect to win. At least I don't have to watch much in the next few weeks since they've been awful lately.

Congrats on #400

Congratulations to Chipper Jones on home run number 400. It hasn't been the best week for Braves news with Smoltz out for the year but this is pretty sweet. The number one pick from all those years ago has had a pretty good career. I know it's been a lot of fun to watch. Number one was against the Mets, #400 against the Marlins and I don't like either team. Good job Larry.

John Smoltz

John Smoltz is one helluva starting pitcher. John Smoltz is also one the all-time great closers in MLB history. A good starter yes but a great closer. Granted he blew his save tonight but he was insane as a closer. I think this will be good for the Braves, that is assuming their pitchers don't keep dropping like flies. Overall a good win tonight.

Isn't Just Football

It isn't just in football that all teams in Ohio are evil. Apparently it carries over to baseball as well. Being swept by the Reds just sucks ass.
